How to Install the Electroneum App on Android

Last updated on November 23, 2018 69 Comments

Note: The iOS version of the app is still under review and is not available yet.

Install Electroneum App on AndroidElectroneum has launched an app with which users can mine ETN. The app also provides a user-friendly interface to easily perform a number of tasks on the Electroneum blockchain.

In this post, I’ll guide you through the process of installing the app and show you how to enter into a weekly competition to win 5,000 ETN coins.

Right now, users can use the app to:

  • Mine Electroneum in the background
  • View their app wallet balance
  • Send ETN coins to another ETN wallet
  • Import ETN coins from an offline paper wallet to the app wallet
  • See a live feed of the current ETN price
  • Easily calculate the value of a certain number of ETN in Bitcoin or USD
  • See a list of exchanges that list ETN
  • Invite friends via a referral system

So how does one install the app?

Download the Electroneum App

Start by downloading the Electroneum app from the Google Play Store here.

NB: Make sure you follow the link given above. When searching for Electroneum on the Google Play Store you will find various apps with the same name, including a previous official version of the app that has been discontinued.

Register an Account

Before you can use the app, you first need to create an account on Electroneum’s website. The process might seem tedious but is there for the safety of your coins.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Visit my.electroneum.com and click on Create an Account.
  2. Sign up using a unique username and password (you can also signup using your Facebook account). Note that you’ll need to click a lot of “I’m not a robot” buttons in this process. This is to keep out the bad guys and protect your coins.
  3. You will then need to verify your email address by clicking on a link in an email sent to the address you’ve entered.
  4. Provide a mobile phone number to which you have access right now. Electroneum will send a confirmation code to this mobile numbers (a precaution to prevent spammers from creating multiple accounts).
  5. When the SMS message arrives, key in the confirmation code.
  6. Provide an email address that will be used to reset your PIN code in case you forget it (this email address has to be different to the one you used initially).
  7. Now key in a new 5-digit PIN code, and confirm it a second time. The app will later ask you for this PIN code when launching the app or before processing any transaction.
  8. Finally, an email will be sent to your email (the one you signed up with) confirming the PIN recovery email you’ve entered. Click on the link in the email to proceed.

You can now log in to the Electroneum app using the email address, password, and PIN number you provided above.

Once logged in, you’ll probably need to verify your device by clicking on a link sent to your email address (this is a once-off procedure to authenticate your IP address, and prevents someone else from accessing your account using a different IP).

Phew, that’s a lot of emails and confirmations!

But rest assured, it’s all for your own safety…

Get Bonus ETN by Referring Your Friends

The Electroneum has a viral referral system that incentives users to introduce their friends to the app.

The referral system works on a commission-based system. For every user you refer, you get 5.00% bonus ETN based on what they are mining. In addition, your referrals will get a 1.00% bonus on top of what they mine when entering your referral code.

So for every 10 ETN mined by one of your referrals, you will receive 0.5 ETN and they will receive 0.1 ETN as a bonus. This system benefits both the referred person and the referer, and has been designed to spur on mass adoption.

ALSO READ: How Electroneum’s Referral System Works

To refer your friends, go to the More tab at the bottom of the app and click on Earn Free Coins. Then click Show My Referral Code/QR. Once your friends have signed up, have them scan the QR code that is displayed on your phone. See this article for a complete tutorial on how to do this.

How to Get Your Own 1% Bonus

As I’ve mentioned, each referred person will also get a 1.00% bonus on top of what they mine.

Since I’ve now referred you to the Electroneum app, please feel free to use my referral code 39C64D or scan the QR code below to enable your own 1.00% bonus. This is purely optional and you are under no obligation to use my code.

Have any more questions about installing the app? Please let me know in the comments.

Currently, the app is not available for tablets. The idea is just to have one app instance per person, so therefore they only allow mobile phones to mine.

No, just be patient. I’ve heard the team is deliberately stress-testing the system before they start promoting it through their partners. They want to make sure everything works fine at large scale before they start promoting it. So you should still see a lot of transactions not coming through exactly on time. But just wait it out. Your coins will come eventually. And probably more on time after the fork on 30 May and after they start marketing it.

The team experienced problems with payments earlier due to high traffic on the blockchain. They’ve started paying out again, but with a large backlog of payout transactions. They said they will keep trying until all payments have gone through. Be patient – it will come through eventually.

    Hi,
A quick question. I understand I can only use 5 mobile devices on one IP to mine electroneum. Can I use the same wallet on 5 different devices or do I have to have 5 different accounts on each device? Also, if I can use the same wallet for all devices, how is my hash rate impacted?

Can I though use the same wallet on two different devices but not simultaneously? i.e I have one device for home use and one work related and would use work device during the day and home device during the night? Sorry, it might be a daft question…

You could always just open another account. Getting a second email address takes you 2 minutes, and it’s free.

But ideally I guess their main aim is to have one account per person (although many people will create multiple accounts and use multiple devices).

It can take a few hours to reflect, often more than 5 hours if the blockchain is very busy. Give it some time. It will come.

Hi, when mining with Huawei P10, I need to stop mining after 1-2 hours if I want to get more ETN. If I leave mining on overnight I get only 0.30 – 0.40 ETN. When I stop mining by my self few times a day, I could get up to 5 – 6 ETN. How to resovle this problem?

    Thanks in advance

I think your phone stops the ETN app from running in the background overnight, and therefore it does not communicate with ETN’s servers overnight. But when you have it open in the foreground all day, it keeps running and you get more ETN.

Your phone might have too many running apps so that the ETN app is killed by other app processes as soon as it is no longer in the foreground. Try to clean up your phone and delete some apps. Also, make sure background data is turned on for the ETN app. Finally, search in your battery settings for a setting that will make sure the ETN app is not killed to save battery life.

There must be something wrong with the paper wallet. Are you scanning the right code on the paper wallet? If the problem persists, generate a new paper wallet and use it instead.

For some reason, the team has made the miner incompatible with tablets. They mentioned this in a comment on their Facebook page recently. Not sure what the reason is, and if they plan to support tablets in future.

    • Benjamin says

      April 28, 2018 at 11:49 am

Don’t think they plan on making it available on tablets at all. They want only one mining device per person. And since everyone that has a tablet probably has a phone somewhere, tablet compatibility would only be serving customers that can mine already. Tablets are luxury devices and are probably not in their target market.

Good question. I think the team will need to pay attention to this. I know, however, that some of those phones can be updated to more recent versions by rooting the device (this is not recommended since it voids the warranty, but for an old device the warranty would have expired anyway).

Hello Benjamin, I tried setting up an account on the app and selected to log in with Facebook. I was then given an account without it asking me for a password. I got the SMS code which I then entered. Then when I got to the step where I had to set up my backup email / PIN it asked me to log in via the website, which I could not do because I have no password! My Facebook password doesn’t work, and I’m 99.9% sure I was never asked to enter a password at the first stage. If you can solve this issue I will happily use your referral code.

    Thanks in advance,

Richard, when you go to the login page on the website there should be a button to Sign in with Facebook again. Don’t try using your Facebook password, that won’t work. Just make sure you’ve previously logged into Facebook on that specific browser/phone, and then click the Sign in with Facebook button. Let me know if it works out for you!

    • Benjamin says

      February 5, 2018 at 11:13 am

Mobile mining is still in beta testing phase. If the app on your phone appears to be mining, you’ve been included in the beta phase. However, you won’t be able to redeem any of those mined coins, since they’re only for testing purposes. Everyone’s balance will reset to 0 once the beta period has passed. A public launch of the miner will take place sometime in the first quarter of 2018.

Just a side note, this blog is a private project and is not affiliated with the official Electroneum team.

Hi Benjamin. I have some ETNs that I bought during the ICO using coins directly from an exchange. I later learned that I should not buy into an ICO using exchanges. Am I still able to access my ETNs and send to my paper wallet?

    Reply
    • Benjamin says

      January 9, 2018 at 3:42 am

I don’t think that should be too much of a problem. The reason they don’t want you to pay out directly from an exchange is that exchanges sometimes wait a while before sending your crypto someplace else. This allows them to use a time that the network is less congested, and they can, therefore, get away with smaller fees.

Are you able to log into your online Electroneum wallet and see the coins there? That would be the best way to know.

    • Jackal says

      January 9, 2018 at 4:11 am

I am able to log in and see the tokens on the token websites but haven’t tried to send them to exchanges or MEW. Electroneum and Bezoip ICO.

    • Benjamin says

      January 9, 2018 at 4:24 am

The best option would then be to try it out and see what happens.

But please DO NOT use My Ether Wallet as you mentioned above. Electroneum is not an ERC-20 Ethereum based coin, so you will lose your coins when trying to transfer to a MEW. Instead, you should download an official Electroneum wallet form the Electroneum website. Here’s a tutorial I wrote.

Yes, the public wallet key is just the address to which the funds will be paid after reaching a certain threshold. So you can specify the same public wallet key for as many devices, running concurrently, as you like.

    • Benjamin says

You don’t need a payment ID when sending ETN to a paper wallet. A payment ID is like a payment reference that helps the receiver distinguish between payment from different people, similar to the reference code you specify when doing a bank transfer to a large institution. So since you are the only one using the paper wallet, there’s no need to use it. If Cryptopia needs one in order to submit, I’ve heard some people just type in a random word. But I haven’t tried it myself yet.

Note that if you transfer ETN from a wallet to Cryptopia you WILL NEED a payment ID, else Cryptopia has no way of knowing who sent the ETN.
